I am trying to help out a friend of mine whos little girl needs to fly to the USA for a £40,000 operation to help her walk, and was hoping some of you might be able to help if you can.
I had the pleasure of babysitting Bella and her twin brother Benjamin for the first 3 years of there lives, and would love to see Bella have this operation to improve her quality of life. She is a very happy child, despite her struggles in life and is loved by everyone who knows her.
Bella is 5 years old and lives with her Mum and Dad and Twin Brother Benjamin in Bracknell, Berkshire. Bella was not breathing when she was born, needed to be resuscitated and as a result was starved of oxygen to her brain.
She was later diagnosed with Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy. One of the symptoms for Bella is that it causes Spasticity (tightness) in her leg muscles and stops her being able to walk independently. She uses a walking frame or crawls to get around.
Her parents are fundraising so they can take Bella to America at the end of April, for what they hope will be life changing surgery on her spine to help her WALK. So far, they have done an interview with Heart radio station and Bella will appear in the local newspaper next week, which will hopefully be successful in geting more funding.
The surgery Bella needs is called "Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy” or SDR and has been performed by Dr Park at St Louis Children Hospital in Missouri for over 20 years with great results.
For more information on how to send sponsor money please visit Bella's Fundwhere you will find details on the left hand side. There are also a couple of you tube video links on the site.
